PHSCE
Intent
At Park Primary School, our PSHE and RSE curriculum aims to support every child in developing the emotional intelligence, character and confidence needed to thrive in school and beyond. Through the use of myHappymind Plus, we deliver a progressive, age-appropriate curriculum that is rooted in our P.A.R.K values: Perseverance, Aspiration, Respect and Knowledge.
We aim to help pupils understand their emotions, build positive relationships and make safe, informed choices. Children are taught to persevere through challenges, developing resilience and a growth mindset towards their mental health and wellbeing. We encourage aspiration by supporting pupils to set positive goals and understand the importance of healthy lifestyles.
Respect is at the heart of our curriculum. Pupils learn about empathy, boundaries, consent and diversity, preparing them for relationships in modern Britain. They explore different family structures and community backgrounds, helping them to value difference and show kindness towards others. Through knowledge, children learn how their brains work, giving them the language and understanding needed to manage emotions, stay safe and seek support when needed.
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum meets and exceeds statutory requirements for Relationships, Sex and Health Education. Our vision is to ensure every child at Park Primary feels happy, confident and successful, and leaves school emotionally prepared for life.
Implementation
PSHE and RSE are delivered consistently across the school using myHappymind Plus, ensuring a carefully sequenced and progressive learning journey from Early Years to Year 6. Lessons are taught regularly and are underpinned by our P.A.R.K values, which are embedded throughout all personal development teaching.
A team of Anti-Bullying and Wellbeing Ambassadors supports the curriculum by promoting positive mental health, supporting peers and modelling respectful behaviour. PSHE and RSE themes are reinforced through assemblies, daily classroom practice and timely discussions when social or emotional issues arise.
Key vocabulary and concepts are displayed around school to make learning visible and support recall and understanding.
Impact
As a result of our PSHE and RSE curriculum, pupils show improved emotional regulation, resilience and self-confidence. Children can explain how their brains work and use strategies to manage emotions, leading to a calm and positive learning environment. Pupils demonstrate respect for boundaries, consent and diversity, resulting in fewer conflicts and more inclusive relationships. Monitoring by the curriculum leader ensures high-quality delivery and full statutory coverage. By the time pupils leave Park Primary, they have strong self-worth, positive aspirations and the skills needed to be healthy, respectful and active members of a diverse society.
