Forest School Club
“The more risks you allow children to take, the better they learn to take care of themselves.”
Roald Dahl
Welcome to Forest School at Park Primary.
We are very pleased to offer this exciting after school club to all of our pupils from Reception to Year 6. Children will typically enjoy blocks of 5 weekly session across the school year.
Park Primary aims to provide unique, hands on outdoor experiences for our pupils, it provides a safe and stimulating environment to encourage enriched and independent learning. We encourage children to explore and experience the natural world, the natural resources of the woodland and the children’s own interest combine to stimulate imaginative, creative and investigative activity.
At Park, we are lucky to have our own mature Forest School on site where children can take part in a wide range of activities, led by specifically trained staff, that are designed to develop the whole child; physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually and morally.
We aim to challenge and support the children to become independent resilient learners who enjoy trying out their ideas, working together with their peers to solve problems and conquer challenges.
Some of the challenges might include:
- Shelter building
- Using tools
- Fire lighting
- Forest art
- Using a Ghillie Kettle
- Planting and harvesting
- Carving and whittling
- Sculpture with natural materials
- Looking after wildlife
- Cooking on an open fire
- Learning knots
All activities are risk assessed agreed by the Headteacher.
